Weathers Opens Up With Newest Album, Are We Having Fun?

Weathers feature on Spotify

The band, Weathers, emerged into the music scene back in 2015. A year later, they released the breakthrough single, Happy Pills,” amassing over 171 million Spotify streams. This kicked off their career which led them to write and produce their newest album, Are We Having Fun?

Weathers believe that their sound resonates closer to the ‘80s and ‘90s style of sound since all three members (Cameron Boyer [vocals, guitar], Cameron Olsen [guitar], and Brennen Bates [bassist]) all group up listening to that style of music. However, they have noticed that their sound changes ever so often.

“It’s meant to be unpredictable,” affirms Boyer, “Since there’s a cohesive sound, you’re essentially living in the same universe, but you’re listening to a bunch of different stories. We dug into how relationships and love can f*** with your head as much as anything else can. We welcomed the changes in our lives, because it was time to evolve—which is also when you should do a new record.”

Their newest album digs deep into your heart. There are songs on this album that everyone can relate to in some way or another. They focused on the harder, realer topics such as mental health, cheating, and relationships.

“When we were making the record, we were feeling a bit of rage and sort of doomed. So we asked ourselves, ‘Is this even fun anymore? Or are we doing this because we’re stuck?’ Since the music encompasses a lot of raw emotion, we decided to be very honest with the title,” Boyer mentioned.

They wanted to express that it’s okay not to be okay. That if you have any issues, don’t keep them stored inside you. It’s best to let it out and discuss what is going on. The alt-rock also expressed that this album helped get their issues off their chest. Each song has its unique lyrics and energy to them. A song that is a great example is their opening song on the album, “One of A Kind,” which talks about how their point-of-view has changed repeatedly, and yet they are back in their depressive state.

I’m on the floor, locked all my doors
Yeah, I’ve felt this before
I tried my best, but I’m still a mess
Now I’m tying my rope…

“One Of A Kind” – Weathers

The album sounds like a mixture of Blink-182 sound and 5 Seconds of Summer. This album has a grunge/rock sound, a hint of pop, and clear vocals.

To us, Weathers is a lifestyle and a family,” Brennen [bassist] concludes. “So, it’s important for the three of us to express ourselves, stick together, and support each other as well as everybody out there who supports us.”

I highly recommend “Are We Having Fun?” to anyone who is reading this. Weathers is a talented, unique group, and we at Fangirls World Tour can not wait to see what they release next!
